Opinion: My Dog is Fat (I Blame my Dad)
My dog is fat because Covid made him want to eat more, just like it did for humans. My dog’s name is Reggie. He is one of a kind and has a tail like Pikachu because it was once slammed in a door. He used to be thin. Now, because my dad feeds him too much, he’s fat. I want to get rid of that because I like my dog and I don’t want him to die young. He is only two years old. It is hard to take care of a dog, because sometimes he only thinks with his stomach. It’s like he doesn’t have a brain.
My dog eats chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter cookies and oatmeal raisin cookies and shortbread cookies and gingerbread cookies and sugar cookies and black and white cookies and butter cookies. He eats apples and pears. Citrus and berries and melons and tropical fruits and stone fruits, too. I know it’s not healthy for him.
What to do? I worry. It’s important to take him to a good vet. But what else? How do you stop dogs from getting fat? My mom is convinced my dog is supposed to eat 3 1/2 cups of food each day, but I’m not. I’m not going to let that happen because he is my dog and I don’t want him to get fat, so I only feed him two and a half cups a day. It’s time to make my dog healthy.
