Imagine listening to the radio, and a song comes on. You don’t know what it is for a while, but then you realize it’s one of your favorite artists, Melanie Martinez! If you don’t know already, Melanie Martinez is a singer who has inspired many people, including me. She made her debut on the popular talent show “The Voice.” Soon after, she released her first album, “Crybaby.” You might recognize her work. Her popular songs include “Dollhouse” and “Sippy cup.”
But as with every other popular singer, she has had her controversies. A couple of years ago, Melanie Martinez dated Oliver Tree, another singer with his own fans. When they broke up, Melanie’s fans — referred to as strawberries — began to attack Oliver. They sent him death threats, left hate comments on his videos, and more. When they finally stopped harassing Oliver, the media started to blame Melanie for the harassment and NOT her fans.
What do I think about this situation, being a strawberry myself? I think that it is not Melanie’s fault, but her fans’ fault, because they made videos on TikTok making fun of Oliver. Because of the bullying in the comments on his social media, he has closed his comment sections. This also affected Oliver’s mental health. My opinion on this is that strawberries shouldn’t have been bullying Oliver. Because, after all, when has bullying ended positively?
